Why I Make Do Without Makeup

I am focusing on living my life to the fullest rather than the prettiest.

Admittedly, my skin has never caused me much distress. Whether that was because I didn’t attempt to plaster foundation on like a mask or not, I don’t know. I’m no scientist.

There are important areas of our lives that should be kept in mind when deciding our course of action.

Societal

Makeup is a societal construct. If we all conceded that skin is imperfect and flawed, then no one would feel the need to look unblemished all the time. I’d much rather see your natural face than a facade.

Thanks to Photoshop and a whole team of makeup artists and stylists, not to mention a ton of plastic surgery and fillers, celebrities can look as smooth as porcelain. But it’s not real, and it’s not relatable.

I follow a few influencers on Instagram, and I love seeing when they’re human. Vulnerability is more appealing than fakeness. Being relatable is where they find their successes. Post a story when you’re hungover or when your kid woke you up at five in the morning and hasn’t napped yet. These are things we can relate to.

Industrial

I’ve found that one of the largest bases for sexism and beauty expectations in the workplace.
